Sgt. Thomas Cartwright Jr., 5th NY Zouaves Ensign Commission. Dated November 4th, 1861. Cartwright had been wounded in the hip at the battle of Big Bethel in June, 1861.
Signed by E. D. Morgan as Governor and Thomas Hillhouse as adjutant. Some fold wear, upper left corner missing, professional archival tape used to re-enforce some of the folds and wear as shown in the scan. Cartwright was wounded again at Gaines Mills, and eventually would die from them in December, 1862.
