Excellent outdoor view of 7th U.S. Cavalry troopers and horses taken at Ft. Riley, Kansas. Identified on lower front mount in old ink "Ft. Riley Kan. 7th Cavalry" and in more modern hand on the back is "Co Bert Winans was in."
Measures 5" x 8" and has wear as shown. A scarce view of 7th Cavalrymen during the Indian Wars.

1879 - 1888 The Regiment scattered and Troops rotated between: Fort Buford - Fort Keogh - Fort Leavenworth - Fort Abraham Lincoln - Fort Meade - Fort Pierre - Fort Riley - Fort Totten - Fort Yates - Troops "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "G", "H", "I", "K", "L" & "M".

1883 - Cavalry Companies officially designated as Troops. (Circulars 8 and 9, AGO, of 1883.)

1888 - 1892 Fort Riley, Kansas; The first time the Regiment roster was complete and they were together again as a single group since 1876. Troops "A", "B", "C", "D", "E", "F", "G", "H", "I", "K", "L" & "M".

1890 - The Last Indian Wars Battle The Ghost Dance War at Wounded Knee, South Dakota. (29 December)

1891 - 1897 Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Indians were enlisted in Troop L, (Under General Orders No.28, AGO dated March 9th), Troop L, designated as Indian Troop, was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma Territory (July, 1891)
