Cdv of Major Job C. Hedges, 14th NYHA & 13th NYI.
"Job Hedges of Albany joined the 13th NY Infantry in November 1861 as a private. He was wounded at Fredericksburg on December 13, 1862 and recovered to become regimental adjutant; mustering out in May 1863 term expired. He immediately joined the new raised 14th NYHA the same month as first lieutenant and was promoted to major in December 1863. Converted to infantry in anticipation of Grant's massive Overland campaign against Richmond, the "heavies" suffered tremendous casualties during the summer of 1864 while pinning Lee's army in an ever lengthening chain of entrenchments. Major Hedges was killed in action June 17, 1864 at Petersburg and received a posthumous brevet to colonel from that date.Image identified by identical cdv's on line, and is in fine condition with wear as shown.
